I’ve visited Michael McDowell’s backyard — aka the Plano Prairie Backyard — a number of occasions over the previous decade (see right here and right here; it’ll even be featured in my forthcoming e-book). My visits have all the time been within the fall, when purple spires of gayfeather flip Michael’s prairie backyard right into a Buc-ee’s relaxation cease for migrating monarchs. …and antelope-horns milkweed.
Within the sunny again backyard, salvia, nicotiana, and coneflowers make a buffet for pollinators.

Michael identified a brand new little bluestem cultivar he’s attempting, ‘Twilight Zone’. I’m actually liking the mauve streaks of coloration.
